THIS IS THE HISTORIC TEAMS PHOTOGRAPH GALLERY

The photos and images below are from pictures from the walls of the Clubhouse prior to re-decorating pre-season of 2022-2023.  It was decided to make them more accessible via this website and to not fix them to the freshly plastered and painted walls.  We hope you enjoy looking through them.  If you do have any old images of Clacton RUFC teams that you wish to share, or, if you can identify anyone from these images, please email your comments or photos to Email

The first ever Clacton RUFC team of 1930-1931

"Clacton Rugby Football Club" was formed on Friday 12th Sept 1930. The pitch at the Sports Ground, Vista Road was chosen that day and we are still playing there today
The club was disbanded between 1939 owing to World War II. It was re-formed in September 1951 with the well known Rugby referee and Cricket selector T N Pearce as President, Jimmy Dow, Bill Damiel and Mervyn Jones were all prominent members and officers operating from the Queens Head in Great Clacton (no longer a pub but the building still stands).

The 1960-1961 Team

In 1961 the Club decided to affiliate to the Suffolk Rugby Union. A steady stream of players have represented the county at all levels.

In 1967 J Holloway played several games for Eastern Counties, also K Woods, S Gage, D Harrison and I Simpson were awarded County Colours at their respective levels.

The team from 1973-1974

The 1971-1972 season saw the best ever playing recorded with only three fixtures out of twenty-nine being lost.

The 1974-1975 Team

We built our existing clubhouse on the Recreation Ground which was completed in 1976.

The building has changed and grown with the years as in 1976 there weren't any Youth players and no women players. The Youth (now called age-grade by RFU) started in 2005-2006 with an Under 14's side, this part of the Club grew quickly. Not until 2023 did we have a Women's squad who have gone on to play in a league since 2023-2024.

The floodlights were installed on our training pitch in 1976. A spend of £20,000 which in 1976 was a colossal sum of money, equivalent to £134,000 in 2025 and nearly twice the value of the average house that year.

The modern era begins. Six of these players still play (fairly) regularly. Our Chairman, main sponsor, Veterans Chief, the Kestrels (Second team) Captain, and our former Youth Chairman too.

2015-2016 players (and our physio too)

2019-2020 First team players

2019-2020 A fine bunch of lads in their new shirts.  Enjoying the autumn sunshine in a pre-match line-up.  Draconian Covid lockdowns were three months away which went on to ruin two seasons of Rugby

Ladies First XV - BeFibre kit
Their first game was on 19th November 2023. An historically significant event as this was the first time that the "Clacton Ladies First XV" played their first full game of fifteen-a-side Rugby

This photo also captures the first time the Ladies wore their new BeFibre sponsored shirts too.

This photograph was taken after the first game of the 2025/2026 season. The squad at this time (October 2025) had over 40 members.
